If the Walls Could Talk Podcast™ – Episode 9: “Parade of Lies”
After nearly a decade of fighting his extradition back to the United States, Edgewater Hospital’s former owner, Peter Rogan, dropped his case to remain in Canada and unexpectedly returned to the United States. Justice finally had come to Peter Rogan. He faced perjury and obstruction charges which could cost him up to 50 years in prison and a fine of $1 million.
Episode 9: “Day of Reckoning” follows what happened with Peter back on US soil. At his sentencing hearing, Federal Prosecutor Andrew Boutros exposed more lies from Peter and urged the judge to put Peter away for the maximum term. But, Peter’s lawyer argued for considerable less jail time and claimed Peter was “villainized by the media”. He also accused prosecutors of being vindictive.
The same judge who sentenced Peter’s friend, Fred Cuppy, for perjury was now in charge of sentencing Peter.
Peter owed tens of millions of dollars in civil penalties. Hear how much money the government and Dexia Bank wound up collecting…and how much it cost them to get that amount.
Hear the letters submitted to the court in support of Peter and the curious story of what ultimately happened at his sentencing hearing. It all left former Edgewater Hospital employees speechless.
Redevelopment of the hospital campus finally commenced. First, luxury homes popped up on the hospital’s former parking garage. These homes reignited controversy thanks to the Alderman’s wife. Barbara O’Connor and her politically-connected husband, Pat O’Connor, were at the center of selling these homes which once again angered neighbors and even became a campaign topic. Some called it a “conflict of interest”.
And, finally, how will Edgewater Hospital be remembered? Episode 9: “Parade of Lies” is now available and shares the head-scratching final chapter in the tangled history of Edgewater Hospital.
